Although Salt Lake City is mostly car-oriented, the city offers a robust public transport that includes buses, TRAX light rail and commuter trains. Buses run to many places in the Greater Salt Lake Area, including Ogden, Salt Lake Valley, Utah County, Brigham City, and Park City. Ski buses are also available during ski season to Brighton, Solitude, Snowbird, Alta, as well as, to the Big and Little Cottonwood Canyons.

Downtown Salt Lake City is the main transfer point where all light-rail lines (TRAX) from across the valley make a stop. Commuter trains or FrontRunner operate on weekdays and Saturdays, with limited stops every 10 to 30 minutes from Ogden to Provo.
